Topping the Badger Face Texel offering at the Welshpool winter sale at 1500gns was Pistyll Fiona from Anghard Francis, Abergorlech, Carmarthenshire.
By an imported Sunnybank ram out of Sunnybank Comet and offered in-lamb to a homebred sire, she had earlier won the shearling ewe class and stood champion before the final successful bid was made by W L Williams and partners, Blackmill, Bridgend.
Next best at 1450gns was the first prize ewe lamb and reserve champion, Banc Gold Digger consigned by Huw and Kate Williams, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire. She is by Strathview Emmett and out of Bluestone Coco and now resides with the judge on the day, Andrew Owen, Newtown, Powys.
At 1300gns was another shearling from Anghard Francis in the form of Pistyll Flick. Again, by a Sunnybank import ram and out of Sunnybank Dangerous, this one sold in lamb to a homebred sire. She was the pick of S J Smith, Welshpool, Powys.
Next best was Cleenagh Fantails commanding a price tag of 1050gns. Consigned by J Bugden, Cadnam, Southampton, having been bred by Clive Richardson. She is by Brougher Cruiser and out of Cleenagh Ballerina and was sold in-lamb to Cleenagh Ezra. She was the pick of A Rowlands, Rhayader, Powys.
I D and S B James, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, realised 980gns for their shearling ewe Betws Fuchsia. She is by a Betws import sire and out of a homebred ewe being sold in-lamb to Evelyn Frost. Making the successful purchase of this one was D Morgan, Talybont, Ceredigion.
Another ewe commanded the same price tag of 980gns, this time from G Rowlands, Holyhead, Anglesey, with Margwen Foot Loose. This Llwyn Derw Chopsy daughter is out of a Betws bred ewe being sold in-lamb to Llwyn Derw Full Monty. She now resides with L Martin, Corscombe, Dorchester.
