Herdman Takes Balmoral Honours as Knockmult Dominates Classes

Overall Champion – Broadwater Effie ET JOH/23/00995

The Balmoral Show provided an excellent showcase for the Badger Face Texel breed, with a strong turnout of quality sheep brought before judge Andy Nicholls from the Specs Flock, Staffordshire.

Knockmult Farms enjoyed a highly successful day, winning the Ram class with Knockmult Gizmo ET-RWM/25/03296, the Shearling Ewe class with Knockmult Glitter ET – RWM/25/03259, and the Ram Lamb class with the outstanding Knockmult High Flyer – RWM/26/03442, which later went on to claim Male Champion. Craigdoo Livestock took Reserve Male Champion with PNZ/26/01765.

The Female Championship and Overall Championship were awarded to J Herdman’s aged ewe Broadwater Effie ET JOH/23/00995, with Knockmult Farms’ shearling ewe Knockmult Glitter ET – RWM/25/03259 standing Reserve Female and Reserve Overall Champion.

Speaking after the judging, Andy Nicholls praised the quality of sheep on display: “It was a really good representation of the breed. The champion was a great example – very correct, good size and still working hard while suckling two lambs, which is a real credit to the breed. The reserve champion gimmer was also a tremendous sheep and a credit to the breed.

“There is a healthy future ahead with the ram lambs coming forward today, while the female lambs were sweet, showable lambs with plenty of potential. The future is looking very good in Ireland with the standard of sheep on show today. It’s all about the breeders and the sheep, and we want to keep encouraging people to come out, show their stock and continue producing sheep to this standard.”

The Badger Face Texel Society would like to thank judge Andy Nicholls for his expertise and thoughtful judging throughout the day, along with all exhibitors and supporters who contributed to another excellent Balmoral Show for the breed.
