Celt Gambler pays out at 3100gns at Badger Face Texel Welsh Premier sale

A ram lamb from the Celt flock of D T Jones, Pwllheli, Gwynedd, topped the Welsh Premier Badger Face Texel sale at 3100gns, held at Welshpool Livestock Market on the 22nd August.

By the 2024 Royal Welsh reserve male champion Celt Fez, this one is out of a Celt import ewe. He had earlier won the ram lamb class at the pre-sale show before being secured by Henry Jewitt, Barnard Castle, Co Durham. 

The pre-sale champion was a shearling ewe, Glan Y Mor Fantasia, from M and A Jones, Talsarnau, Gwynedd. She is by Brougher Cruiser and out of Cleenagh Beyonce and now resides with the judge, J Bugden, Cadnam, Hampshire, with his final bid of 1200gns.

Next best at 600gns was a ram lamb from D W and S L Harries, Llandeilo, Carmarthenshire. Hope Grovy Man is sired by Bodoney Ecstasy and out of Blacklaw Cystal and was snapped up by E D Jones, Smithy Fen, Cambridge. 

Also at 600gns was an aged ewe, Cleenagh Bo Peep, from S Ghiorghita, Wellingborough, Northamptonshire. She is sired by Cleenagh Celebrity Juice and out of the Cleenagh import X31 ewe. She returns to previous owner H C Jewitt. 

The male champion in the pre-sale show was a shearling ram from D T Jones in the form of the Irish bred Powerful Improver. He is by a Powerful import ram and out of a Dutch Import ewe offering fresh bloodlines to the Banc flock of Huw and Kate Williams, Talley, Carmarthenshire, at 580gns.

At 520gns, I D and S B James sold a shearling ewe, Betws Foxglove, to S McMahon-Roberts and D Lloyd, Worcestershire. She is sired by a Betws import tup and out of Banc Dora.
