Show ewe Tordown Glory leads Badger Face Texels at 2,000gns at Worcester

A flashy-headed shearling ewe from Steven Ley and Hannah Payne’s Tordown flock at Manor Farm, Holcombe Village, Dawlish, Devon, took both the supreme championship and the 2,000gns top call at the Badger Face Texel Sheep Society’s annual show and sale at Worcester.

Tordown Glory (TDN/25/02206), a February 2025-born twin, is by the Sunnybank-bred import son Corra Elvis, a sire that has left the bulk of this year’s Tordown consignment, and out of the home-bred Tordown Eva, herself a daughter of the influential Whatmore Babdit and tracing back through Tordown Cheerleader to the flock’s foundation import females. Catalogued as a 2026 show ewe, she was tapped out as champion by judge Huw Williams, Talley, Carmarthenshire, of the Banc flock, before selling to Kelly Sharrock, Llanvair Farm, Llanvair Discoed, Chepstow, Monmouthshire.

Ewe lambs make 900gns

Next best at 900gns was a January-born ewe lamb from Aubrey and Sue Andrews, Lypiatt Farm, Miserden, Stroud, Gloucestershire, and she too was heading to Chepstow with Kelly Sharrock.

Carrying home-bred blood on both sides, Miserden Havana (AAS/26/04854) is by the flock’s own Miserden Fandango, a son of the import sire Little Whisker Bad Ass, and out of Miserden Echo, a Little Whisker Chilli daughter bred from Miserden Daffodil. Described in the catalogue as a good-coloured, correct and smart lamb, she was one of four purchases on the day for the Sharrock family, who between them accounted for the two leading females as well as 800gns lots in both the aged ewe and ewe lamb sections.

The Miserden flock’s second ewe lamb, Miserden Highlight (AAS/26/04909), also made 800gns to the same home. A February 2026 twin, she is by the Belgian import sire Hansnett and out of Miserden Fine Day, and was catalogued as a very smart, correct lamb with excellent markings. Completing the trio, Miserden Hazel, another Hansnett daughter, sold at 550gns to M and B Williams, Maendy Farm, Pencoed, Bridgend, Mid Glamorgan.

Louise Winsor, Plantfield, Black Torrington, Beaworthy, Devon, led her ewe lamb run at 580gns with Winsor High Flyer (LSW/26/01119), a well-marked single by Baileys Dark Lord out of an imported Rathbone ewe and noted for her length and presence. She sold to J Tattersall, The Werth, Chaceley, Gloucestershire, who also took the January-born Winsor Hetty, by Winsor Great Expectations, at 360gns. The Evelyn Gangster-sired Winsor Hope made 380gns to J Smith, Grange Road, Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

Six ewe lambs sold to average £624.75.

Strong trade for shearling and aged ewes

Behind the champion, the Tordown flock’s shearling ewes found ready buyers. Tordown Glamour (TDN/25/02205), out of a strong show line going back to the flock’s foundation import ewe, made 750gns to M and B Williams, while her flock-mate Tordown Glitz (TDN/25/02183), another Corra Elvis daughter, sold at 620gns to J Tattersall.

Aubrey and Sue Andrews’ Miserden Galaxy (AAS/25/04660), a well-balanced, good-coloured shearling ewe by Miserden Fandango, realised 550gns to J Smith. Four shearling ewes levelled at £1,029.

Tordown also headed the aged ewe section, selling all four forward. Best at 800gns was Tordown Freya (TDN/24/01400), a triplet by Tordown Eminem, to Kelly Sharrock, with Tordown Dotty, a Tordown Chaos daughter out of the import ewe Turbo Blue, making 700gns to M and B Williams. Tordown Flora, by Miserden Eagle, sold at 500gns to P J Roberts, Goodmoor Hill Farm, Far Forest, Kidderminster, and the Whatmore Babdit-sired Tordown Divine made 450gns to J Smith. The four averaged £643.13.

Rams to 780gns

The male trade was topped at 780gns by another from Ley and Payne, the shearling ram Tordown Gary (TDN/25/02191), a Corra Elvis son out of Tordown Elle, a multiple interbreed winner for the flock in 2024. He sold to C Harries, Ty Uchaf, Llanddeusant, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire.

Phillip Douch, Llwyngwyn Farm, Panteg, Felinwen, Carmarthen, was next at 600gns with Gee Wiz Gregory (WIZ/24/00604), a long, stretchy shearling by Knockmult Foden ET out of Duhonw Eleanor, bought by I W Price, Clawdd Offa Farm, Penrhos, Brymbo, Wrexham. The Miserden flock’s Miserden Gino, a well-marked Fandango son, made 500gns to N Prouse, Ashby, Week St Mary, Holsworthy, Devon. Three shearling rams averaged £658.

The sole aged ram, Bishops Fascination (HHT/24/00070) from H and H Tunstall, Bracknell, Berkshire, sold at 550gns to D and A G Harries, Llwynfron, Llanddeusant, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire. A big, strong tup by the £3,200 High Ploughlands Ernie ET out of Tamtain Catherine, he leaves behind him a shearling son in the same consignment.

Ram lambs peaked at 550gns for Miserden Hannibal (AAS/26/04851), a correct, well-marked Fandango son out of the top-class ewe Miserden Elusive, selling to P A and H M Coles, Pits Farm, Towcester Road, Silverstone, Towcester, Northamptonshire.

Henry Browne, West Street Court, Withycombe, Minehead, Somerset, sold both his Rosedale ram lambs, with Rosedale Hurricane (HJB/26/00052) — a son of the 5,100gns Knockmult Freddie ET out of Little Whisker Faline ET — making 480gns to V Thomas, Syke Farm, Red Roses, Whitland. His full-of-character stablemate Rosedale Heineken, by the 1,700gns Knockmult Foden ET, made 250gns to C Harries. Three ram lambs averaged £448.

Averages
