It was the Pre-sale champion that led the prices at the Badger Face Texel Sheep Society’s Merry Belles offering at Welshpool Livestock Services on Thursday, 14 December, when Huw and Kate Williams’ Banc Elin sold for 1100gns.

First heading up the ewe lamb class before going on to stand supreme, this Banc Charger daughter was born in March out of Teify Blues Cariad, herself by a Dragon ram from the flock at Talley, Llandelio. She caught the eye of E F Williams and heads to Pantglas, Caernarfon.
Two sold for 900gns apiece, both of which were snapped up by I D and S B James, Llandrindod Wells. First at this price was Whatmore Destiny, a shearling ewe from Sara Gibbons, Tregoyd, Brecon. She is by the imported Sunnybank 22717 ram while her dam is Whatmore Apple-Pie, herself by a Cleenagh import.
Gareth Rowlands from Llanddeusant, Caereybi, also saw his Margwen Disco sell to the James family for 900gns. Her pedigree features Llwyn Derw Chopsy on to Blacklaw Bella, a daughter of an imported ram.
Dearest of the aged ewes at 880gns when sold to J L and A J Andrew, Ellesmere, Shropshire, was Cornhill Cracker from Sam Duggan, Boughrood, Brecon. Bred from a Turbo Das ewe, she is by Sunnybank Boxer.
Averages: One aged ewe, £924; 12 shearling ewes, £712; four ewe lambs, £651 (Welshpool Livestock Sales).
